These three changes will be visible in your very next essay.
Using the exact words from the question prompt in your introduction is the fastest way to signal limited Lexical Resource. Examiners notice this in the first two sentences. Paraphrasing every key concept — using your own vocabulary rather than the question's — immediately signals a higher band. This is also where the greatest LR gains are available, because you are changing something that takes five seconds per essay.
The difference between Band 6 and Band 7 vocabulary is often not the words themselves but how they are combined. Collocation — knowing which words naturally go together — cannot be guessed, it must be learned. Many Nigerian candidates know the right nouns but pair them with the wrong verbs or adjectives. Examiners call this "errors in word choice" and it directly reduces your LR score even when the intended meaning is clear.
Every candidate has 6–10 words they over-rely on. Identify yours and build an upgrade list of 3 alternatives for each — alternatives you are confident using correctly. The goal is not to sound academic. It is to demonstrate that your vocabulary naturally ranges across different levels of precision. Variety without accuracy lowers your score. Targeted upgrading raises it.
